Porcupine Tree's The Incident Album Review

Porcupine Tree's long awaited follow-up to the successful Fear of the Blank Planet, The Incident, is a 55 min track that revolves around Incidents in Steven Wilson's life. The title song is very very dense with a lot of going on: some acoustic guitar parts here and there; killer and heavy guitar riffs; SW's melancholic voice; Gavin's outstanding drumming along with Richard Barbieri's soundscaping and Colin Edward's bass make the title track one enjoyable journey. The lyrics are very good and the music is excellent though the title song doesn't feel very cohesive. some transitions are good, some are bad...It feels more like a collection of short songs. The other 4 separate tracks are great. Think of it as a mixture of Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun blended with some Insurgentes (Steven Wilson's solo album) and a little bit of the heavy riffing in Fear of the Blank Planet...

In short, I think this will have a hard time in surpassing In Absentia, Fear of the Blank Planet or even Deadwing, but this doesn't mean its a bad record...Time will tell if The Incident will live up to such classic records. Time will definitely fly for The Incident.
